The worse exhaust manifold design in the history of the internal combustion engine!
 

Thought someone may get a kick out of the exhaust manifold on my Rambler. This is without a doubt the worst, most inefficient exhaust manifold EVER made. If it isn't it ties for the worst. :D

What you see here is the actual exhaust pipe which comes up from under the car along side the motor to finish with a cap over the end! There are rectangular holes in the pipe that mate up with the exhaust ports (siamesed ports no less!).

Stuff like this is of course one of the reasons I bought the car, it is the ultimate in simplicity. But after I run the car as it was built in 1959 for a while this is one of the first things I am going to correct with a nice tubing header. So I have to keep my parts car and this cracked block around until then so I can make the headers while still driving my car.

That thing looks like it came off a tractor! Making a header for it will be a fun project!

That would be an excellent turbo manifold... lol.

LOL, this IS a "tractor" motor, it's a flathead. Ramblers used them up until around 1966. I don't even know of a tractor that was still using a flathead!

It is the most simple motor you can imagine, I love the darn thing. Tired of the computer controlled stuff. I feel like I am 16 again working on my first car.

So how do you make a custom exhaust for it? You chrome the pipe, of course!

WOW ... Ive never seen anything like it but by making that a full header (4-2-1) I BET you could easily DOUBLE the cars hp, fuel efficiency, and even the life of the engine!

...yes, but you have to marvel at the production-cost-effectiveness of its "simplicity" of manufacturing and installation: punch, bend, and bolt-on (ha,ha)!
