Ziptie Plugs from Tuneko
Hi,
I am pleased to release all your Ecomodders next favourite attaching mechanism. Ziptie Plug!. http://www.youtube.com/user/TunekoLtd#p/u/0/_K4HSD6c0_I That will be the first size and hopefully many more options and sizes will follow. That is designed to give smooth surface and clean looks. They can be opened without any tools. All comment are welcome. Now only problem is that those are only ready on my computer screen and lets see how fast I will get first ready products on my desk. Those will work only on the zipties they are designed to work with... |
Now you can make your own plugs if you have a lathe. Just mill aluminium caps and cut the heads from releasable zipties and you are good to go. All I can say that it is at least 2x more easier and faster to install than regular zipties. Looks arent bod either?
Aluminium wheel cover attached with Ziptie Plug.jpg - Windows Live Soon that kind of caps can be bought from Tuneko/me ;). That plastic tool costs 8000€, which is too much so have to start with these two piece versions. |

I could see some other uses for these, and people will use them for things we'd never think of. If not, can't you get some of the main zip-tie manufacturers interested in producing them, and pay you an inventor's fee ? They have the distribution channel to shift millions of these, and the tooling costs would be peanuts to them. |

I have asked 100000 pieces production on first year and that is too little for big manufacturers. Also 10 cavity tool is very small, because it should have 100 cavities. 100 cavity mold is then again ten times more expensive... That kind of aluminium version like in the picture will be on the market within before summer. So far I have milled my own plugs. I dont yet have no prices for those plugs, but will update as soon as I have something to tell. |
You might be able to make two hard metal pieces that make a rectangular dent (for the zip-tie head) and punch a slotted hole (for the zip) in an aluminum washer in one step. Mount them in a shop press-tool and there you go.

Nice work:thumbup: What's the chance you'll be selling any of those disks in common sizes with selectable number of Ziptie Plugs included? I'll be the first to sign up for a set.

I have manufactured my own milling machine for round circles, check DIY page. So I can manufacture any size round diameter disc. With those aluminium plugs package will include 25 pieces of plugs and Smooth hubcaps. Zipties you will get 100 for the plugs and 100 for the attachement, so total 200.
You can choose which material you want your discs to be. ABS, polycarbonate and in what color. White, Black, clear and tinted are basic color options. At the moment I cannot give good estimation what it will cost, but that should not be too expensive. So far I havent got prices yet to my quotes on those milled plugs. Jakobnev: I have also asked if it will be cheaper to manufacture that kind of puching tool, but no news on that either. |
Costs of the plugs are 2€ per piece. That includes one 300mm long ziptie and one releasable ziptie plug. At the moment I mill those plugs from aluminium by hand so it takes time.
So 20 ziptie plugs will cost shipped on letter to states 40€ which is 55 US$. Smaller than 20 piece orders there will be 2€ shipping cost. I will try to make a grill block assembly video with ziptie plugs tomorrow. |
Over $2.72/pc is a bit much for mounting hardware. I know you're milling these by hand and it's a one off product for now but I think your goal should be under $0.25 a pc. Look at what traditional hardware costs such as Wingnuts, etc.. And go for a cost comparison.
Good luck on your product. I can foresee many uses. |
With plastic injection mold the price will be first that 0.25 $ per piece or under, but try ask quotes from milling shops for that simple product and you will notice that small series (under 1000 pieces) cost if they even are willing to make them.
