Tuneko aerodynamic wheels

I have been doing testing of various wheels and tires since 2008 and in the past years my biggest dream has been to make my own wheel and tire model for electric vehicles.

At the moment the test tire size will be 195/60R18 Michelin e-Primacy and first test car Tesla Model Y where I have calculated the new wheel and tire solution will save 16% of energy.

I have calculated and estimated these will save about 10% of energy on all EVs that are running similar +-5% diameter size tires than what these are. would you be interested to get them for your EV if my calculation will be proved in the coming months correct in the Model Y tests. Same test wheels will be tested also on Model 3, but that car I havent yet found for the tests that will be carried out in Finland.

* Very often, it's reported that the 'larger' wheels on BEVs come with a 'penalty' to range.
* And a number of researches have confirmed the efficacy of 'aero' wheels as pertaining to range improvements.
* So you're firing on all 'rotors'!

If the numbers pan out, I could see the potential for a 'market.'
Zip-tied cardboard and Coroplast is one thing, but an effective, affordable, OEM 'look' wheel cover might find broad appeal.
The narrower tire section, if it can handle the load rating, is something Mercedes-Benz has exploited on their EQXX concept.
That's 'three boxes' you've checked.

You missed the second most important benefit that car will become quiet like a cat with the new narrow tires. When that happens you can in theory lighten the vehicle elsewhere. Problem usually is how to make the doormirrors etc more aerodynamic to get rid of the wind hizzle.

That will also impacts wind noise from tires.

Almost always also ride quality improves due to taller tire profile

'quiet like a cat'

You'd be disappointed driving in Texas.
On asphalt roads, paving contractors are using gravel aggregate so large that, the noise from the thrumming tires is so loud that one might pull off the roadway to inspect the car for something mechanically wrong.
And on concrete interstate highways, the drainage channels cut into the surface, depending on their orientation, may generate road noise so loud that you may also feel that there's something wrong.

Finnish roads are propably not much worse. When they build here new tarmac car still does not go straigth as it jumps up and down all the time.

That is one of the reasons why there is new tire that needs to be made. New tire will come, but that new tire model will be a topic of its own when time is rigth.

First is to make sure the energy savings are there after that, find investors and money to make all the necessary things that are currently wrong in wheels and tires as there is many design errors or flaws if your goal is ultimate efficiency and comfort etc. Track driving is not the main goal, but best setup will also be tested on the track use to see how fast or slower new setup is on dry or faster on wet.



New fixing method for the 3d printed covers is invented for the prototype wheels for the tests.

savings are over 10% already even still need finetuning.

next will come 195/60R18 to 7,5x18 wheels
and 215/55R18 to 8x18 wheels
try to get also model y perf set for the tests to have more material to compare in the moose tests etc

and those performance tests will also follow

Here on Ecomodder I support tall and narrow. Mostly i3 tires on MG-TC or Ford Model A 19" wires, for cars in the one ton range. Like this but with 19s:



How does the comparison between Hankook and Michelin tires translate to your proposed tire?

That 195 size cannot carry enough load on paper. With 65 profile it gets too big.

At the moment planned size 205/60r18 or close to that. At the moment they make only few winter tires in that exact size.

When you go narrower you can redesign tread pattern little bit differently, but that's finetuning.

With readjusted tire deflectors savings should be 16% range
