"Showing" does a MUCH better job of "Telling" than just 'telling' does...ie: pix-vs-words.

wow! most impressive! you the man Jim! Can't believe it costs less than $2,500.

My dyno idea was to use a Prius transaxle for a load for MGEO, but hey we are all-electric now with the Indy One Now I'm interested in generator efficiency, and could use a dyno to tune a small generator engine, see electric boat forum for my generator mods in progress.

You want to tune some little direct inject 2 strokes?

With comments like those, this thread should head for the front page.

My comment: 'Now that's the way to save a few bucks on gas!'

I was especially interested in the video you Liked 5 months ago—'HydroForming with a Pressure Washer - Setting up/testing'. Colin Furze comes across as a bit of a pyromaniac, but the process he demonstrates could be applied to e.g. domed aluminum hubcaps, and &.

Very cool. What software is running on the PC showing the dyno data and graph?

Thanks for the comments everyone! I have to admit, this thing is the coolest toy ever!

In reply to niblemotors,

Yeah. this thing was built on a very small budget. The goal was to keep it below 1K but that was pretty much impossible. I think the cost of labor and engineering would be scary, but this is just a hobby.

in reply to Ardent,

The dyno software was written in Quick Basic and runs in a pure DOS environment. The line graphics were done using the PSET command. DOS is virtually crash proof when compared to Windows. Anyway the PC is pretty fast at 2.0GHZ and Quick Basic has no problem keeping up.

Haha! Is the B3 in the video the same one I sold you last fall? Very impressive work my friend. I'd love to take a field trip out to the shop if you'd be open to it

Wow, small world!

Yep, it's the same B3,

If you ever get out the Jackson area, you're more than welcome to stop by.

Wow, Its been a while since any updates, I apologize.

Anyway, I took a break from the dyno project in order to sort out some issues with the Miata. I think I finally have everything in order.

I'm going to get started on the first real experiment this week. The first project will be camshaft timing and trying to find the sweet spot for cruise.

This is a fairly big project and I had hoped to do videos, but for now the first few experiments will just be pictures. The video part adds a lot of complications and I just don't have enough help right now.

Well, here are a few shots of what is going on lately.

Dyno engine has been fitted with an adjustable cam sprocket.

The miata engine has also been fitted with an identical sprocket.

Soon we will know if the cam timing can enhance MPGs.

Stay tuned!
