This is also a great idea to be explored. The supercap bank would have to be sized appropriately, even over sized to protect the battery. Could a bleed off resistor be used as well in this case?

I like the idea and think it could somewhat work if the components were carefully selected and engineered, however the cost and complexity might not make it worth it.

I'll also add that I can do 100% grill blocking...

I'll also add that I can do 100% grill blocking on the TSX in city driving without overheating. I'm able to do this by running the climate control. Whenever the HVAC is turned on, it runs 1 cooling...

At 17 degrees outside temp, I'm guessing the seat warmers and heater was on. Perhaps the headlights were also on. This would call for higher idle consumption.
