EcoModders Average 33 MPG, 25% over EPA

With nearly 3000 vehicles in the EcoModder garage, most of them logging data for over a year, we decided it was time to crunch some numbers to see how EcoModders stacked up in terms of real fuel savings. Well, the numbers are in. The average EcoModder gets 33.12 MPG, which is just a hair over 25% [...] Related posts:

Now that's a great story! At $3 per gallon, that's almost $200K saved.

If you go to nikeplus.com at the link below you can see the miles run ticker at the top of the page. Would be cool to see this ticker on the top of the ecomodder page that is for miles over EPA and/or money saved using the ecomodder site stats.

Honestly the title should be changed to "EcoModders Average a reported 33 MPG, 25% over EPA"

I have seen quite a few highly suspect fuel log numbers and some that admit they only post ECO tanks. But I do agree the numbers are a lot higher than the average driver, who thinks hitting the EPA numbers is a myth and sham.

Shouldn't matter, the EPA numbers aren't lifetime averages, either. They're "first case basis", perse. They take the average of a few runs under "controlled" conditions, then post up the number. That's basically how any tank that goes into a fuel log is put in, unless the entire tank was highway, all in one trip.

Since most of us are working on tank averages during fill ups, each tank gives a somewhat accurate average account of the fuel used, allowing for +/- 10% Variability, approximately.

That would mean that even the "best tanks" are still averages, they're just not averages that are averaged into the other averages to make a lifetime vehicle average. (That's a hyper-average number of times to use the word average in a sentence. )
