US Citizens that don't pay federal income taxes. Not a bad deal, all the benefits, none of the cost. I'd give up my federal voting rights and federal representation if I never paid federal income tax again.

Puerto Rico is dirt poor, where are they going to get the solar panels to recharge the power wall?

That's what I thought too.

They could authorize the libertarian sea-steaders to park off-shore and sell them electricity without all that pesky government interference.

My kindergarteners are enduring standardized tests while I study for the GRE and read "Big Bang Theory" quotes. Then I saw this via Yahoo:

Quote:
After arriving in storm-ravaged Puerto Rico, President Trump went around a table praising and listening to praise of his administration's handling of the crisis caused by Hurricane Maria.
President Trump kicked off his visit to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico Tuesday by continuing to applaud his own federal recovery efforts while simultaneously attempting to downplay the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, which has left 95 percent of the island without power and more than 50 percent without access to clean water two weeks after making landfall.
I think Presidents need to stop visiting devastated areas so the people can get their lives together.

Like Bush during Katrina?

What I hear is that the devastation is reported as less than total in the foreign press.

The President seems to be on top of things but the local PR politicians are politiking.

I found the story on a second source. This one is Jesse Bowers at Just A Car Guy, whom I respect.

JACG:in other news, at least 10,000 shipping containers of critical supplies are sitting on the docks at the port in San Juan Puerto Rico, but are not moving because politics, greed, complete lack of competent local govt organziation, and of a lack of truck drivers who appear to be having a strike.

... well, he did misspell 'organziation'.

I'm no fan of Snopes (they're in the same bucket as SPLC) but the argumentation is reasonable.

It makes me think of steampunk Zeppelins and Bucky Fuller wanting to deliver 10-story [hospitals] by air in the 1930s.
