I also put a metal rod inside the hollow area at the bottom to allow shaping the bottom edge some...and this will help hold the center part as the wind hits it.

As far as I can tell I gained maybe 1-2 mpg from this mod.
I used that same stuff, I think. I shaved off the two flanges and then sanded the edging smooth. Good idea on the metal rod inside the hollow area. I wonder if shooting in some great stuff insulation would stiffen it up further. Not that you need it - Just thinking out loud.

I've been wanting to try making an air dam for my explorer but wasn't sure what material to use. That edging seems to be working pretty well, so next time I'm at Home Depot I think I'll pick some up. Hopefully this will get me to 25mpg highway.

First (almost) full tank mpg shows no mpg gain from the air dam.

I THINK I can...I THINK I can.....

That lawn edging is tough stuff. I can't tell if it helped any but my Volvo looks like beast with it in front and down the sides

I went with paver edging (from Home Depot, so it's on topic):

Close up with the bumper cover removed:

It's very rigid and far more durable than the bumper cover itself. It doesn't hang down quite as far as some of the other materials, but I plan to lower it some this summer so I don't think I want it any lower anyways.

Nice application darcane, looks like if that material is installed at 90 degrees behind a chin spoiler it could act as a splitter.
