New with 04 Maxima

2 years ago i wanted to add underbody panels to inporve my areodynamics; to become quicker and better mpg. also, i added an aftermarket bumper that no longer allowed my stock "engine splash/aero shield" to fit. so i purchased 2 sheets of polycarbonate.

i had no idea on how to attach it, plus still have not finished the bumper since the lower grille never arrived

well with gas prices i want to finish this project. i found this site along with countless others. but it's awesome to find a forum where people are doing these projects and talking about them.

i posted my thread here polycarbonate (aka lexan) help

i plan to make a front air dam.
block my lower grille and fog light openings.
divert air entering the main grille to flow upwards (with coroplast).

later i may add diffusers to the rear. i see my gas tank is really low though, so i may just close the gap between it and the bumper cover.

i can get 30mpg cruising on the highway. i ave 20-22 since i do mostly city driving.

Nice looking car! With some work you might be able to get 30 combined,

Welcome to EM! When I look at the rear slope to your Maxima's roof, it looks closer to the "good aero" rule of "no more than 15 degrees" than other sedans.

Regarding the polycarbonate, I am going to assume it is as flexible as coroplast. A lot of people use cardboard to perfect a template and test the mod. I keep thinking you could use some strategic zip ties to attach it. The virtue would be easy-off if there is an overheat issue (not likely based on the upper grill). If the plastic does have to flex, the bumper *appears* to be a shallow-angled curve to me.

Welcome to EM...

Very nice Maxima. I can't tell from the pic -- is that custom paint?

I always enjoyed driving the Maxima SE (rentals). One of the best engines made, handles great for the size, etc.

Enjoy the site, and best FE to ya

thanks everyone!
that's just the stock nissan black paint. though my front end was repainted again recently. it's bitter-sweet to clean her. overall the up to 8 hours i spend detailing makes her look amazing, but i see all the battle scars from rock chips and door dings

i swear clean clayed, polished, and waxed paint is more aerodynamic. your hand will slip right off my paint, i imagine air glides more smoothly over it too.

combined 30mpg? that would be incredible. stock the car has a Cd of .28 but i don't know how my custom bumper changes it. once i block off the bottom, i would hope it improves it greatly since it is way lower in the front now.
