News: first "kite assisted" cargo ship on commercial run left port on the weekend

A SkySail ship left the German port of Bremen over the weekend on its way to Venezuela with cargo from DHL Global Forwading

According to The News Market, with favorable winds, "fuel costs can be lowered between ten and 35 percent. A small, 87-metre-long freighter would thus save an average of 280,000 Euros in fuel costs per year."

Maybe they'll join Ecomodder and start a fuel log.

I first read about those in PopSci. (you know - the picture science book for kiddies?) i'm surprised they are using such a small kite (judging by the pic) but even at a 10% cost reduction it makes it well worth it.
