My C-Max - '13 Ford C-Max SEL

A praise for new Ford cars and MPG......

Hey Guys,

We are, now, a two Ford family. 15 months ago we bought a 2013 C-Max hybrid for my work (I drive 44,000 miles per year in-town). And just this weekend we brought home a 2014 Fusion Titanium AWD for my wife.

My C-Max is obviously very good on gas. I average 50mpg year-round and 58mpg in summer. No surprise there (this is a hybrid after all). However, the big surprise is my wife's Fusion. ---Side bar--- This is a PHENOMINAL car! The AWD is wonderful and it has just enough power to really be fun! [OK, Back to efficiency] . The car is rated at 22mpg city and 29mpg highway. Not bad for a 240 hp 3,700 pound car. However, those numbers are really conservative. My wife averages 27mpg in town and I can hit 33mpg in town if I pay even a little attention to the MPG bar on the left screen. My wife is going 400 miles tomorrow on the expressway. I am excited to hear what her mpg is on that trip.

Anyway, I know many new cars are very good on gas (Mazda comes to mind as one company committed to efficiency, as are others). So, it is not just Ford. But, since I own two Fords, I can only comment on them and I must say I am completely satisfied with the mileage we are getting. We used to spend $1,000 per month on gas between our two cars because we drive a combined 60,000 miles per year. However, that number is now $430 per month in gas! That savings makes one car payment and 25% of the second car payment. So, we are driving two brand new $30K+ cars for the price of one $25K car when the gas savings are calculated in.

I am so thrilled with this.

I just wanted to share.

It is good to see new technology doing some good. The little 2 liter turbo in my wife's car is great on gas and RIPS when needed. I could not be happier.

The future of hypermiling looks good with these new cars coming out right now.

Matt

In 1973 I saw Fords sabotaged by assembly line workers one week before a strike. I stayed away from Fords for decades, when I saw a hole drilled into the main oil gallery on a brand new truck, under the torque converter, with a "you found it you $%^&"" written next to the hole. The truck never left the dealership with oil pouring out of the bellhousing. How it ever got out of the factory I can't imagine.

I drive a 2011 Fiesta today, average 45 MPG in a car rated at 38 high way. It was totalled and rebuilt so the title is branded and there is no warranty. I worked on cars for most of my adult life and after 23k miles I think this Fiesta is one of the best cars I have ever owned.

Only the future will tell about long term reliability but right now I am one happy camper, especially significant considering my past experience.

regards
Mech

I wasn't always a Ford man but I've had good luck with them since the '80s.

FORD is not the only employer to have disgruntled employees bent on revenge and sabotage.

Ford family, but wasn't a Ford person until mid 2000s. In the early 2000s, Ford started realizing what was coming, and that they needed to make great products or they would be having issues. I was bummed it took them so long on the Mustang, but it eventually happened.

I'm leaning toward a Fiesta to replace my wife's Chrysler Concorde.

I really wanted a Fiesta, but the rear cargo space with all the seats up is less than half the size of the Fit's cargo space. So no Fiesta for me.
