Weighed the car today

I had alot of old books and paper to drop off today at a collection site. When the guy saw a bunch of boxes, 20-30kg each, he decided I should drive onto the big scale, instead of weighing each box individually. I quickly agreed, since then I'd have an idea of how much the car really weighs. So, the results are:
- Payload = 160kg (352lbs)
- Svietlana = 1300kg (2860lbs)
- Piwoslaw = 5kg too much

Svietlana was weighed without the rear seats (3x20kg) and with less than half a tank of fuel. With the seats installed, she'd be around 1350-1370kg, which is still 100kg less than her official weight (Women - they always lie about their age and weight ). This is good to know, since I used the official weight when calculating Cd and Crr from my coastdown results. I wonder if the difference is worth going through all of those calculations again?

What also makes me wonder is why the official weight is almost 9% larger than the real weight? For me, of course, this is good news knowing that I'm hauling over 100kg less, and that if the need comes, I have an extra 100kg of margin for the payload. That's quite a bit. So where did the weight go? The weight of the removed roof railings is about the same as the rear skirts, and I haven't taken anything else out (except occasionally the rear seats).

Has anyone else weighed their vehicle and got a number so much different from the official figure?

No ideas about where the weight went, but (if you don't mind) a point on the English. Weighted means to add weight to something, weigh means finding out how much it weighs.

Thanks, James. I know that makes a big difference, but I'm getting a little rusty. Changed in the post, but the title can't be changed (unless someone with more power than me does it).

The official weight probably includes every option available for that model at the time of production.

No problem: rusty or not, your English is still far better than my Polish :-)

I have been told (by those who know (not no)) that the weight (not wait) of the car is the weight (not wait) going down the road. Not (not knot) the weight as the car waited (not weighted) to (not too (not two ( nor 2)) be purchased.
So (nor sew) it includes an average driver (without the putter or irons) and a full tank of gas.

Gosh, I had fun with that!!!! (ignore him)

(man if Frank Lee would just jump in next, then the pendulum of attempts at humor would have completed it's full swing! !)

mark

ps. your english is obviously better than my attempt at humor!!

The official curb weight should include a full tank of gas at 6lb/gal, all fluids topped off, and all standard equipment in place.

I weighed the Subaru at the junkyard a while back, and after adjusting for the fuel tank being 50lbs light, I was about 10lbs under the curb weight, despite carrying floor mats and 20lbs of tools.

I thought gasoline was 8lbs per gallon, along with most other fluids? That's the measure I've always used...

Anyway, they probably took curb weight of a "fully loaded" model for the manual.

In the U.S.,EPA certification testing is done with 300-pounds added,to simulate two people ( Joe Sixpack and Twiggy ).

Nope, water is 8 lbs per gallon, and gasoline floats on water. I use 7lbs/gal for oils and diesel, 6lbs/gal for gas.
