Well that was fun.
Nutshell: EM represented nicely!
In a way it was kind of like an elementary school race, because they made a "modified" division (twinned with each of the mpg classes) so ecomodders weren't competing directly against unmodified cars. On the other hand, we punched out some really decent numbers in the competition - top of the fleet.
(Wonderboy would like to emphasize that his EPA rating had him competing against Ben's modified lean burn monster, so, well, it was all tears after that.)
Left to right: McTimson's Tercel, SVOboy's CRX, MetroMPG's Firefly, Wonderboy's Civic
Trophies for (almost) everyone!
Fill numbers:
- 88.5 - Ben;
- 57.2 - Will;
- 53.1 - Tim (correct me if I'm wrong on that one);
- 99.7 - Darin
Course was 77-79 miles around Seneca Lake where you had to keep within 10% of the speed limit to finish within the alloted time - plenty of 55 mph, some 45 & some city sections, including stops & lights.
At the end, there was of course discussion about the accuracy of the very small fills (SG numbers were lower for everyone I talked to, not counting Prius drivers) - thinking we might have been seeing the effects of fuel expansion during the drive (morning top up after a cool overnight, fuel heating up during the drive, then another top up).
We also met up with Bryn, who showed up to take in the exhibition in the afternoon. There was a good amount of interesting stuff to look at. And the weather was pretty much ideal.
