lol Frank thats a myth. The swirl direction comes from the suction pattern and the flow pattern.

If you take a pump and drain water out the bottom of a barrell and inject the water back in at the top the direction of swirl is determined by(if the pump has a face, that) the direction the water is added. If you notice water pours into the bowl itself in one direction usually Also the water coming through that wide mouth hole at the bottom front of the bowl is swirling in that direction as well.

Toilets that don't swirl at all(large powerful commercial toilets) suck water straight down no vortex whatsoever. I worked at a summer camp and we got sick of pumping toilets daily so we got the massive suction versions. They don't swirl at all and you had best standback. .
