All stop lights are not the same. Some have sensing loops and some are controlled by algorhythm.

MN passed a law allowing cyclists to "run a red" if they come to a complete stop and there is no cross traffic, because they finally figured out that bikes don't trip the sensing loop. I'm glad they passed that law cuz I'd been running those reds anyway. Heck if I'm gonna sit there in the middle of nowhere waiting for a light that's never gonna change.
