Sorry, but you're just wrong about that. I've owned a Sunbeam Alpine, a '55 Jaguar, and an Austin-Healey Sprite, and driven/worked on many other British sports cars. And owned/driven some of the American competition of the period - the '59 Chevy I learned to drive on (I still remember how I longed to take a cutting torch and remove all the extraneous sheet metal, like a trunk that I could damn near have parked the Sprite in), a '66 Pontiac GTO, and others I'd as soon not remember.

There's just no comparison in the driving. As for build quality, I personally had the front suspension come off a '60s Chevy at speed, saw many acquaintances drop transmissions & rear ends, etc. What's a few - ok, a lot :-) - of electrical problems compared to that?
