...Ok, done from my distractions. Back to fun stuff...(probably not a good choice of words from your perspective though)

Doesn't look good for the file recovery.

I know apple can let your resize partitions and such with various tools and data intact but....I did everything using the disk utility the way that you did and every time it nuked the data. If you get any more ideas or advice I'm willing to try them out first. I do hope none of the data was proprietary and you will be able to replace it all, eventually. Lots of work I know. With a drive that big maybe you could split it and raid it for future redundancy/safety.
