Yes, always been the apple HFS type.

And yes, 1 terabyte, it was about 30% full at the time. It was pretty cheap but the company screwed me on the mail in rebate

Doesn't look good for the file recovery.

I know apple can let your resize partitions and such with various tools and data intact but....I did everything using the disk utility the way that you did and every time it nuked the data. If you get any more ideas or advice I'm willing to try them out first. I do hope none of the data was proprietary and you will be able to replace it all, eventually. Lots of work I know. With a drive that big maybe you could split it and raid it for future redundancy/safety.

Sorry this didn't work out as hoped.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Coming up with what to do is 1/3rd of the battle, coming up with what to do at any given time (ie NOW) is another 1/3rd, the other 1/3rd is doing and can be quite easy at times.

I tried this just now. Looks promising.

It didn't find the data files I placed before the partition change on my test system...but it did find stuff. I didn't check the integrity of what it found yet but....worth a try. Nothing to loose at this point, right?
