Iono, googling turns up a bunch of different payloads for a F-150 depending on options, and on average they're about same as my Toyota. I noticed the same thing with my friend's old Dodge. No appreciable difference in payload. Volume isn't even a deal breaker, since any small truck can take a flat bed that's the same size or larger than a full size pickup bed. There are small one ton trucks too. Like I said before, outside of heavy duty towing I have trouble justifying the cost of a larger truck. My tiny 82 pickup can haul ~1800lbs according to the door placard, which puts it right in the middle of brand spanking new "full size" pickups.
