see if you can find out what specific additives they are refering to
I know that alot of synthetics have additives to help prevent wear and clean the engine out.
So if you used something like the mobile 1 fuel saver oil that is in 0-w30 you may get away with that with no problems.
And if you are concerned about it change the oil every year.
