I've never liked advice like "Avoid X type of driving"... specifically because I think it artificially inflates your result.
Granted, you can park outside the city and ride a bike in, or something, but being realistic, not many people are willing to do this, so on the whole, "avoid city driving as much as possible" just isn't a viable piece of advice, especially if you end up putting yourself out to do it.
Just because you're getting better mileage doesn't mean you should take the longer route, metaphorically speaking.
Frank - I've had that site bookmarked for a couple years now.. I'm sure I've read all the "facts". LOL.
