Yeah, if you want to longitudinally brace that mount, a tab across the top of it will do fine.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. What you'll really want to do with your custom mounts is periodically check them for stress cracks, etc... once you determine where/if the failure points are, you'll be able to properly reinforce them.
