I'd say get the engine mounted, cobble together the minimally sufficient amount of wiring, and load up enough deep cycle batteries to get you to school.

I almost agree with this, though - because then you can still work on it while you're at school. Hell, you might just be able to recruit some other students to help you out, as well.
