About the rivet idea, I agree with everyone else here about not using them for anything that might need to be removed.
I riveted my pan ( engine pan ) together since it was two sections of aluminum, but I use self tapping screws to actually hold it to the car.
In case I need to change my oil, or any such thing as that, a few screws are all that needs to be removed.
Rivets hold super tight ( After all, rivets are what hold planes together )
Once in place, they are there for good.
