Guess what car is currently the most efficient one sold in the Australian market?

Ford Fiesta Econetic.

Ford Fiesta ECOnetic - Australia's most fuel efficient car

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – October 16, 2009: Ford Australia today set a new fuel efficiency benchmark for the auto industry in this country by introducing Australia's most fuel efficient car – the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic.

With a combined fuel consumption rating of just 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres (64 mpg US / 76 mpg Imp), the fuel efficiency of Fiesta ECOnetic surpasses all other vehicles currently on sale in Australia, including petrol/electric hybrid models.

Ford ecomodded the regular Fiesta with the addition of an efficient, small (89 hp) diesel, plus the usual round of tweaks most of us are getting used to seeing on "eco" models of regular production cars:
  • LRR tires
  • taller gearing in the transmission and final drive
  • aeromods: lowered ride height, air deflectors, smooth wheel covers
  • weight reduction (no spare)
  • shift indicator
