Before you go to the bother of making up a deflector, remove the wipers and go for a spin. See if you get any improvement in mpg. If not, then you know not to bother with all the faffing around with a deflector.
I did that and brought my wipers with me so i could put them on if it rained. Got no gain in mpg so i didn't bother with a deflector.
I also went to a lot of effort making a FULL (over exhaust too!) belly pan under my yaris and got virtually no improvent, maybe 0.1 or 0.2L/100k but the weather may have contributed. I was going to post pics and do a build thread but it given that it didn't work, there was no point.
