From what my cousins and uncles who live in CA have told me, pickup trucks with an open bed (no tonneau cover, cap, or camper) have to be registered as "commercial" vehicles in CA. A camper, cap, or tonneau cover changes its status to "passenger vehicle". Makes perfect sense to me. NOT.
