Indeed, it's a great time to learn. You can make the shape you want with chicken wire, pull it out, put packing tape over the side you won't see of it, and lay your glass over the packing tape. I helped a guy do a set for a 240SX (pig nose) similar to this, but with normal round lights.

one of my XT forum mates (who has taken an Xt to the extreme with the 3.3 liter SVX engine swap) has taken an interest in my project and has offered to do the buckets in aluminum for me. (he said housings and I think that may be more approriate) pretty sure the offer includes a very reduced labor charge!
