Sorrow,on page 62 at top,Fig. 10 shows a better detail of the flow separation over the backlight and trunk.
This is where I'd spend my time.
Subaru has done a really comprehensive job with the fore-body,and no doubt it could be improved, but you'd have to do some drastic surgery and with the envelope wrapped very tight as it is,it would be a major deal.
The smoke trace will show you exactly where to mod, essentially bringing the body up to the smoke. That's all Kamm did.

after talking to you I have read through the paper again a lot of it is still hard to wrap my head around, but... I did read the thing about how the body was designed to the low drag at yaw moments and when it wasn't going in a perfect straight line that's a whole lot of genius!
speaking of smart ideas.. I was just looking at the shelf thread where you mention the xr4ti going to get one of those up and do some photo editing.
(thanks again for pointing out figure 10 to me)
I may be able to take that idea some where here since that's the area that needs the mod. I won't be concerned with yaw moment aerodynamics until the yearly Alcyone (japanese name for the XT and SVX) dragon meet. even then I want to get very high mileage on the way up and down so I can afford a cabin this year instead of a tent!

I helped a guy do a set for a 240SX (pig nose) similar to this, but with normal round lights.

one of my XT forum mates (who has taken an Xt to the extreme with the 3.3 liter SVX engine swap) has taken an interest in my project and has offered to do the buckets in aluminum for me. (he said housings and I think that may be more approriate) pretty sure the offer includes a very reduced labor charge!

I wonder why the aero numbers dropped like they did for the 4wd version. It might have been because of the rise in height, the extra diff and axles going through the air in the back... or a combination of both.
So I would probably look into underbody paneling, since most manufacturers don't do a whole lot under there. But who knows, maybe they did?

nope.. you're asking smart questions...
I think beyond the fixed front lamps I won't be able to do too much...
not anything they didn't think of...
but I need to get the wheel flaps back on and the stock front under belly which I took off to do the belts.
lower it and maybe try a bigger airdam (since mince is warped from hitting an opossum)

This is a rally style rear spoiler for down-force which is effective for that, although with a high drag penalty.
