I hear you LeCouch.
I'm also a car pooler, driving 50 miles each way. I too curtail my hypermiling techniques. But I do what I can to keep the car in lean burn as much as possible on our ride; in my car that's a big part of the game. Covering a lot of distance you need to keep the speed up or you'll be riding solo again.
