He's in a lucrative business. A quarter century or so ago, the B.C. government gave Frank Hertel four million bucks for his vision of drawing hot water from deep wells under deserts, and then using the heat directly to run the pumps and provide cold water. Why B.C.was so worried about thirsty nomads was not explained, but it made a nice distraction. Frank put a shipyard out of business, and built a small office block before skipping town with the rest of the money.
