I'd definitely suggest synthetic, in the engine and transmission. I've been running synthetic engine oil for a while, but I changed over to synthetic last winter and the car noticeably would coast farther when cold.

As for the intake, I'd just grab some of that flexible metal ducting for your dryer and route your intake over to your exhaust. Its quick, easy, cheap, and you can stick with your stock plumbing and filter.
