Just an FYI - I believe in some states, you can have insurance for the owner of the vehicle, and the registration is still valid. In other states, however, this doesn't work. The registration is invalid of the vehicle registered isn't on the registrant's insurance policy to be operated in capacity as a road-going motor vehicle. (With some exceptions.)
