Two cars would be twice as expensive as one, in terms of insurance, maintainence, and mods. Unless there's a severely extreme mod you want to do to one, like a boattail, 2" of ground clearance, or electric drive, I say do all the mods to one car.

Highway driving is mostly about aero, and city driving is mostly about driving style and weight reduction. Even so, aero tweaks will improve your city FE, and weight reduction has a small impact on your highway FE.

You really need a mirror delete.

Jamming on the brakes is road rage. If you don't have the patience for someone always riding on your tail, you don't have what it takes to be a hypermiler.

Someone gets on your ass, just slow down more, and appreciate the increase in fuel economy.

Slow down to give them more of a cushion of time for when they inevitably screw up, or so that the impact is at lower speed, and you can keep better control of your vehicle. It's a matter of safety. They'll inevitably either back off or pass you like an idiot. Wave like a retard when they do. Then smile at how stupid you look, and continue your drive.

I own quite a few cars. I have an 88 Cherokee which was my very first car and I still have it 493,000 miles. Pre ethanol I averaged 22mpg with 31" tires.

I also have a 96 voyager minivan which was my comfort people gear moving that was fuel efficient (28mpg pre ethanol) its dead now (tranny)

I also have a 92 Clubwagon. this is my luxury trip vehicle and big trailer mover (it can haul 10k trailers)

I have a 74 VW Thing (this is just a fun car I got lucky to get ahold of)

and now I have a 94 Metro Xfi.

SO currently my 94 Metro is my daily commuter and run around car.

my 92 Clubwagon is for trips of more than just me

my Jeep is my winter weather vehicle backup vehicle if another brakes down and my off roading fun vehicle.

The voyager will be the backup vehicle once its running again and my when the metro is just too small for what we need to do vehicle.

If I need to tow a trailer I use the Jeep. if its a big trailer or my sailboat I use the van.

IE I use each car for its designated purpose and maximize fuel economy at the same time. Except for the metro none were purchased FOR fuel economy. Each was purchased for a need.

I "use" them based on need and fuel economy. I keep all of them registered and inspected but only insure 2 at a time. A simple phone call to my insurer swaps the insurance to whatever vehicle I currently need to use.

this does not count the motorbikes I have :-)

Just an FYI - I believe in some states, you can have insurance for the owner of the vehicle, and the registration is still valid. In other states, however, this doesn't work. The registration is invalid of the vehicle registered isn't on the registrant's insurance policy to be operated in capacity as a road-going motor vehicle. (With some exceptions.)

I know - I believe TECHNICALLY my registration is not valid while its not insured. I also do not care. :-) My moral compass is clear. I do not DRIVE the vehicle unless I have insurance on it. I WILL NOT insure all my vehicles. That is lunacy. I hate even having TWO insured because I am paying for nothing. I have liability only so my CARS are NEVER EVER covered only medical and the other persons car. So there is no logical MORAL reason to charge me a single penny more whether I have 2 or 20 cars with liability only.

yet they get away with it. One more legal criminal organization.

I have liability only as well. On 2 vehicles, my new payment is $75/month with a new driver on the policy. It's crap. In NH, you don't need vehicle insurance.

wow. are you young? I would die if I Have to pay $75 a month. Not sure I could afford to drive at $75 a month. That's gotta hurt man.

I think its borderline immoral not to have insurance (unless your wealthy enough to not need it) but I hate thats its legally mandated. it means they can charge anything they want and we have a choice. pay it don't drive or risk going to jail.

I pay $400 a year for 2 cars and I think thats insanely high.
