I GOT IT TO START!!!!
Turns out the coil was bad, even though it tested good according to the FSM. I tested the high side and the low side for continuity, and it had it. IT was shorted between the high/low, though.
It turns out that the bike is fairly easy to start with the kick starter - sometimes.
It will run without the battery, but I don't know about running with the headlight/etc. attached. None of the lights are currently hooked up on the bike.
I need to tear the carb down and clean/tune it, I think. The bike will start, but will not idle. It may be a partially plugged jet or something in the bowl preventing fuel flowing properly.
I also need to apply for a certificate of title, finish the seat upholstery, and mount the trunk, then install the rear lights. The OE front lights will be used for now, until I decide what to do with the front end.
Aero isn't going to be too much of a concern, at least for now. I don't think I'll really go anywhere far on it that will require trips at much over 45MPH for any long period of time.
I may, later, consider fitting a fairing to the front of the bike, and a semi-fish tail enclosure on the rear.
