That extra key position lights the taillight and nothing else, like a cheezy form of hazards, you will never want to use it probably.

It may be running out of spark at high RPM, so give the cap a try if you like.

If you have a hard time kickstarting it, disconnect the yellow and red wire at the solenoid (leave it disconnected) and hold the starter button in whilst kicking. The button itself is what disconnects the headlight and energizes the solenoid.

It should make electricity all on its own with the permanent magnet alternator.

Will give that a shot the next time I get a chance and report back. I was waiting for the battery modules to come in, but I think I'll just see how well I can get 'er running w/o the starter at all, and get 'er to run smoothly.

if you have any power supplies (or computers with power supplies) in your pile, that might be a good source cap. Parallel would be the way to hook them together if needed.

Crap, I'll have to check. I think they've all been taken in for scrap, but I may still have a few. I'll have to look up the numbers on them to check their capacity, right?

It should say on them, voltage isn't critical as long as it is ~12 or more. I would just grab the biggest ones.

Thanks! I'll check my crap when I get to my Father's house later, and see about snaking some of them.

Would PSU's from a PlayStation 2 work? I've got like 10 of those...

So, I went downstairs and installed the ignition switch that I rebuilt/rekeyed, made sure the coil and all was wired up properly, and attempted to kick start the bike.

20 minutes of ether, choke, WOT combinations, not even so much as a pop. I'm going to have to get a battery to use on it so I can crank without getting exhausted, and do a compression check and such to make sure that everything is in Tip-Top shape.

If it turns out there's a problem w/ the engine, I'll likely swap it for the CB125 motor I have, which is still comparable in low-end torque, but has 5 gears instead of 4, and will basically bolt-up to my frame without modification. (Not entirely true, I'd need to swap harnesses and all..)

I GOT IT TO START!!!!

Turns out the coil was bad, even though it tested good according to the FSM. I tested the high side and the low side for continuity, and it had it. IT was shorted between the high/low, though.

It turns out that the bike is fairly easy to start with the kick starter - sometimes.

It will run without the battery, but I don't know about running with the headlight/etc. attached. None of the lights are currently hooked up on the bike.

I need to tear the carb down and clean/tune it, I think. The bike will start, but will not idle. It may be a partially plugged jet or something in the bowl preventing fuel flowing properly.

I also need to apply for a certificate of title, finish the seat upholstery, and mount the trunk, then install the rear lights. The OE front lights will be used for now, until I decide what to do with the front end.

Aero isn't going to be too much of a concern, at least for now. I don't think I'll really go anywhere far on it that will require trips at much over 45MPH for any long period of time.

I may, later, consider fitting a fairing to the front of the bike, and a semi-fish tail enclosure on the rear.
