In 1992 I pulled an average 69.5 mpg between Denton,Texas and Cloudcroft,New Mexico.Roundtrip distance was 1,170 miles.I got 57 mpg going,and 82 mpg coming back.
The car was a 1984 Civic CRX w/ 1.3-liter,5-M,no engine mods,but the streamlining package was on.
This was at the old 55-mph national speed limit.
Baseline ave. fuel economy for that car at that speed was 52 mpg.
