While we're discussing "ics", how about "semantics"?

"Aerodynamic" is not a singular noun, it's an adjective, and "aerodynamics" is the study of things that are "aerodynamic", and therefore a noun, but not a "collective noun". Similar with other "ics".

So "Aerodynamics are for the weak", is not proper usage of the word. It should be "Aerodynamics is for the weak".

"Biology" and "history" are nouns, and "biologies" and "histories" are proper usages of the plural, and people do study them.

(I can tell I'm going to get beat up after school again.)
