Yes.

Its a little more difficult than just pulling the stock one off and sticking the new one on though.

There are loads of guides and youtube videos on how to replace a heatsink, so put the stock one on and then read up on how to replace it.

Also, download Ubuntu, burn the ISO to a cd/dvd, set your bios to load from the cd/dvd drive and use that untill you decide on an OS?
