You could also use an MPGuino .

Fine tuning the driver is going to net you the biggest gains quickest, and instrumentation will help. Sounds like you're already making a decent effort. Avoiding the brakes is one of the big ones.

So is keeping an up to daet fuel log so you can track your performance.

If you have a regular commute and instrumentation, every day can be a competition against your previous best. Nerd out. Log all the data.
