Little known fact but unless it's stainless a clamp _can_ be better. Welding an aluminized piece will end up destroying the corrosion resistance where you've welded it. Ever notice where an exhaust tends to fail? Yes at the welds! The clamp deforms the pipe for a mechanical fit. Removing it isn't as easy as you think! I'm sure anyone else experienced in this area can chime in to confirm what I've said.
