Well, I did it.

I seem to have broken my controller again.

For whatever odd reason, when I went to turn the car on - the motor went full blast right away. I turned the key off to kill it. When I turned the car on again, there was no power to the controller.

The pre-charge resistor was getting warm too, but I think that's just because the main contactor wasn't snapping shut. Usually, the resistor only has energy going through it for about 5 seconds. If I left the car on WITHOUT the main contactor closing, the resistor would continue to heat.

This also happened to be the first time I hooked up the tablet computer up to the Cougar.

I would imagine that it is completely unrelated, and just a freak of chance.

I pulled the controller and took the cover off. Nothing was smoked on the power board. It looked like resistor R1 on the logic board might be burnt out.

I e-mailed Paul about it, and he sent me a few tips for testing the controller.

Adam, I like the idea of the Jotto Desk. I hadn't though of using the seat bolts as a mounting point. I'm sure I could build something that would work like that.

I roughly positioned the tablet is a few places. It only really fits on the passenger dash (right in front of the airbag. And on this car, there is no "off switch" for the airbag) or free-floating somewhere towards the passenger side.

Supported on an arm, the tablet could get to a place out of the way of the passenger and airbag, without also blocking the stick-shift or radio.

Come to think of it, a Kensington lock to an arm literally bolted under the seat would make the tablet PC somewhat theft resistant.
