Anyone heard of this stuff?

It's made from left over chopped up cows and is supposedly biodegradable.
My question is:
How can anything, once removed from an engine and containing various types of nasty/toxic metals, be bio-degradable? I mean, you can't just throw this stuff in the yard. You'd still have to recycle it, right?
