You've got the same issues I have. Oversized openings that really serve no purpose.
Currently I have mine covered with cardboard and 200MPH Tape (red to match the car).
I am quite rather unsure of any benefit from it. I am thinking its time for a
Nascar'esque front bumper. Build it all outa aluminum angle, and then use some sheet metal over it, with a nice splitter on the bottom too.
I won't even get started on the wrap around rear bumper / wheel skirts idea... Lol!
