Although there are advantages to having several data retrieval inputs when hypermiling, a simple vacuum gauge will give you most of the information you need to achieve great mileage.

Low RPM acceleration at 2 inches of vacuum is great for your pulse, then you want the highest vacuum when cruising. You can even tell when you are in a drafting situation with a decent vacuum gauge.

Rewiring a car so it would be OBD2 capable would be a monumental task.
