The non-xfi metros still get great mileage and have ac. You can get an xfi type cam to put in the regular 1.0L's they come with if it is that big of a concern. The 1.3L version is EPA rated at 40mpg unless you get the DOHC GT model. The 1.3L is in the Suzuki Swifts which are the same car with different badges.
Like Ryland mentioned, the ones you are looking at are in higher demand because they are the peak of fuel economy for their models. My point is that, you can possibly buy a non xfi model for less than you could an xfi and use the money saved for the cam swap. Just my 2 pieces of copper.
