Best year metro/crx with AC?

My friend delivers hot and cold foods and wants a cheap beater.

I was looking at the 89-94 metro xfi but then found out they don't have ac(what model has ac and can I move to different years?).

1988-1991 Honda CRX HF
For some reason I've been only looking at the 90-91. I think there was a slight change in those years.

Years/models and pros and cons or a link would be great!!!

You are looking for two vehicles that are in higher demand that have a slightly uncommon add on, you might be better off finding something like a mid '90's Geo Prizim/Toyota Corrola with a 5 speed, they will get 40+pg if they are running right.

The non-xfi metros still get great mileage and have ac. You can get an xfi type cam to put in the regular 1.0L's they come with if it is that big of a concern. The 1.3L version is EPA rated at 40mpg unless you get the DOHC GT model. The 1.3L is in the Suzuki Swifts which are the same car with different badges.

Like Ryland mentioned, the ones you are looking at are in higher demand because they are the peak of fuel economy for their models. My point is that, you can possibly buy a non xfi model for less than you could an xfi and use the money saved for the cam swap. Just my 2 pieces of copper.

Many of the 2nd-gen CRX HF cars did have air conditioning. The 88s would be preferred because they were the lightest, but the difference in observed economy would likely be small. The 89 HF isn't much heavier than the 88, and it still has the pillar-mounted seatbelts instead of the door-mounted ones. The 90 and 91 HF had door-mounted seatbelts and were heavier than the earlier ones, and are a bit less in demand than the 88s in particular.

The 1st-gen HF may be able to pull better mileage numbers than the 2nd-gen in part due to lighter weight, but I don't know if any or many of them were delivered with AC. Plus they were carbureted, and I'm somewhat allergic to carbs, so I haven't really looked at them closely.

toyota echo 5 speeds can get mid 40's witout mods or hypermilling. corollas are close behind ,and have a cheaper cousin the chevy spectrum (i think thats the name ) actually a corolla. if your not stuck on those certain cars, these are newer and fuel injected and avalibe fairly cheap,,,,sometimes.
