That sounds like a horrific waste. If the body's in decent shape, just swap the engine and transmission with lower milage units from salvage. Or if you have some money to toss at it, you could upgrade to a stronger / more reliable engine like an H22 or H23. If you don't want the glamor and associated price tag of the H series, maybe the Accord's F series.
