I diagnosed mine with a ScanGauge (MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure) reading which showed it way out of normal range. ScanGauge is not an option on your '92, unfortunately.
Google "how to find engine vacuum leak" for other detection methods (that's what I'd do).
Has your exhaust become smellier or more noticeable (cloudy)? Mine did, because the vac leak caused a rich condition.
