Hey Robert,i just found some research results that might interest you.University of Wisconsin-Madison,led by professor Rolf Reitz have come up with an engine that combines gasoline and diesel to get the best of both worlds.Using fast response fuel blending they have achieved 53% thermal efficiency! The special mix lowers engine temperature by as much as 40% drastically reducing the amount of energy lost to waste heat.There you go now it is not unheard of.This application was done on a diesel engine,they claim by applying it to a gasoline engine the fuel economy potential improvement would be even larger.Check it out.
